Audra McDonald's talent is unparalleled in its breadth and diversity as a singer, and performer. In 2015, she was awarded record-breaking seven Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. Her name was also cited by Time magazine among the 100 most influential individuals and received with the National Medal of Arts - the top prize for artistic achievement in America for artistic achievement by the president Barack Obama. An enthralling singer who has an extraordinary gift for emotional truth-telling, Ms. O'Connor is at ease in Broadway in addition to the opera stage and in television. Aside from her theater work McDonald has also established a successful career as an internationally acclaimed recording and concert artist. McDonald is from Fresno California, where she was surrounded by a large family full of musicians. At the Juilliard School in New York City, McDonald received training as an classical vocalist. McDonald was awarded her debut Emmy for her role as a character in The HBO version of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit written by Mike Nichols, starring Emma Thompson. In 2003 she was back on television but this time on Mister Sterling produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr., starring Josh Brolin. The Bedford Diaries, a WB television show that premiered in the year 2006. She then had an recurring role on NBC's Kidnapped during the following year. In the year 2016, McDonald was nominated for the fourth Emmy Award for her appearance on HBO's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, a film-special. The Bite will be a six-episode drama about a pandemic that will be produced by Spectrum Originals, CBS Studios and Taylor Schilling in 2021. McDonald first played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in CBS's law-and-order action thriller The Good Wife, in 2009. In the year 2018, she returned to her role on The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a series regular. The performance earned her three Critics Choice Award Nominations. She appears as a special character on HBO's The Gilded Age by Julian Fellowes.
